Abstract:
There are various reasons that require support for international students, e.g. orientation difficulties in their studies, language barriers, lack of contact with fellow German students and lack of academic integration. The problems are manifold. The success of international students depends on proficient support during their studies. Teachers are often the first point of contact for international students when it comes to seeking support and thus have a bridging function. However, teachers are often inadequately prepared for these tasks. In this article, the focus is on the teacher’s perspective on how to deal with international students. A lecturer survey was analyzed for this objective. The result shows three types of behaviors: consultative, overburdened, disengaged. Recommendations for universities are formulated based on the data.
