Abstract:
Germany has little experience as a country of immigration – at least in the minds of its population. In fact, however, it is and, due to its demographic development, it has to be. The rejection of this characteristic is widespread – presumably for rational and irrational reasons. It is therefore worth analysing the reasons. Before analysing this, the contours of the immigration processes must be illuminated, because this is where false assumptions are made. Universities can play an important role here with their scientific approach. What options for action do they have? Key factors are the required degree of integration, its criteria and conditions. Universities can help with all of this – both by educating their students in this regard (today they can reach half of a birth cohort) and by providing expertise to the wider public. A second article on this topic is already planned.
