Abstract:
The aim of this article is to examine (re)producing social inequality based on social origin and position and the associated discrimination within the education system from a classist perspective in the context of higher education. Special challenges and (counseling) needs (e.g. cultural adaptation processes, financing of studies, self-elimination) of first-generation students are identified and central starting points of classism-sensitive student counseling (e.g. reflection of one’s own class position, habitus sensitivity) are discussed.
