Neue Akteure und ihre Bedeutung für die Qualitätssicherung
Abstract:
Tenure track professorships have become commonplace at many German universities in recent years. This changes the mechanisms of quality assurance in academic staff selection as evaluating academic achievements before granting tenure requires the participation of new actors and committees, such as tenure committees/boards and external reviewers, and the definition of tenure criteria. Using the ‘veto player’ approach that is widely used in political science, we reconstruct the decision-making process of final tenure evaluations at 84 German universities. Our analysis assesses the extent to which different actor constellations and procedures for setting tenure criteria contribute to a greater quality in tenure track appointment procedures.
