Abstract:
The article qualitatively analyzes the comments from a questionnaire that was distributed to all professors at private universities in Germany as part of the standardized survey on staffing conditions. A total of 1,213 professors participated in the quantitative survey. Of these, 219 respondents left a comment in an open field to provide feedback on the survey. In addition to general impressions and methodological notes, a qualitative content analysis identified various personnel- and quality-related issues at private universities, including challenges, advantages, and restrictions of academic work. Although the qualitative data from the comments cannot be generalized, they nonetheless provide valuable insights into the heterogeneous personnel conditions at private universities and point to aspects that warrant further investigation in this organizational context.
