Abstract: 

What makes Higher Education managers successful? An empirical analysis in four success dimensions.
This article uses a nationwide data set to investigate what the professional success of Higher Education managers depends on. Of particular interest is the relationship between individual characteristics (professional experience, attitudes, sociodemographics) and higher education, additional qualifications and competences as well as professional role perception with professional success. Such insights could contribute to more successful action by individuals and support the professionalisation of the field. So far, little is known about qualification requirements or factors influencing professional success in Higher Education management. Success was operationalised multi-dimensionally in four dimensions via salary, a leading function, satisfaction with the professional situation, and the adequacy of employment to the former study. The analysis revealed that the „ability to develop strategies for problem solving“ is particularly relevant for professional success.
