Abstract:
This paper critically examines the focus on university culture in higher education management, arguing that the concept is often unrealistic and ineffective for achieving strategic goals. While university culture emphasizes shared values and norms, the paper highlights the practical challenges posed by the fragmented and diverse nature of higher education institutions. Instead, the concept of atmosphere is proposed as a more dynamic and actionable framework. Atmosphere, as an affective and situational quality, significantly influences collaboration, decision-making, and organizational success. The paper advocates for constructive atmospheres fostered by humble leadership, emphasizing transparency, respect, and collaboration. This approach aligns with the unique requirements of universities and promotes collegial decision-making while addressing the limitations of traditional cultural paradigms.
