Abstract:
The non-academic, supportive staff at universities receive little attention in higher education policy and development. The same applies to (higher education) research. However, in fulfilling their research, teaching and other tasks, universities are generally directly or indirectly dependent on the support of their technical, administrative and other service staff. This article provides an overview of the work and employment situation in science-supporting areas at universities based on a secondary analysis of the data from the DGB-Hochschulreport and compares these results with other vocational sectors. The analytical model of organizational justice is the basis for interpreting the findings.
