Abstract:
Diversity is a crucial factor in creating an excellent work environment. The recognition and facilitation of diversity are of particular importance for universities, not only because of the positive impact on academic performance but also due to the societal responsibility that universities bear. The focus of this article is the seminar ‚Diversity in the Workplace: Embracing and Promoting Variety‘, developed at the Center for Leadership and People Management (CLPM) at Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (LMU) München. The goal of this seminar is to strengthen awareness and sensitivity of diversity, promote allyship, and establish gender- and diversity-sensitive language among the academic staff. By describing scientific backgrounds, the developmental history of the seminar, as well as practical insights gained from conducting the seminar, we aim to emphasize the importance of this topic and advance the development of similar programs at German universities.
