Abstract:
To address current and future challenges effectively, there is a need for strategic human resource management and development in universities and research institutions. First the necessary theoretical bases are compiled, these are the definition of HR strategy and an ideal-typical strategy development process. Then the example of KIT shows how to develop a comprehensive human resource strategy for a university and research institution. Within this process, it is necessary to align the strategy with the goals of the organization and involve as many stakeholders as possible. It should already be considered how the developed measures can be implemented. At the end, there is a discussion on the impact of HR strategy development in scientific organizations and how a strategy can help at the decision where to invest scarce resources effectively.
