Abstract:
A strongly unbalanced gender ratio means a loss of diversity and therefore a loss of competence for science. This is to be counteracted in the interest of excellent science. Furthermore, equal opportunities are enshrined in the German Basic Law, thus the science system in Germany is obliged to actively promote gender equality. Various measures for equal opportunities are discussed at different levels of action, ranging from family and tenure policies to organizational culture and quota regulations. Measures that affect the distribution of financial resources are considered particularly effective and fair.
