Abstract:
The article deals with the social responsibility of the university and for the university. It outlines the concept of responsibility and shows that the reference to society and social responsibility is in line with the inner concerns of research and scientific education. What is required, however, is boundary work that preserves differences and enables transcendence: transdisciplinary consideration of normative claims while preserving the epistemic claim to validity; resonance with social needs and expectations within the framework of the autonomy of science. Sovereign openness to society is emphasized as a guiding perspective.
