Abstract:
The present study followed the question to what extent competencies are systematically outlined in job advertisements in higher education and science management and to what extent these reflect the competencies actually required in the profession. The results indicate that job advertisements are formulated more broadly and unspecifically for higher education and science management, while professionals emphasize important competencies more consistently. Combining the current wording of job advertisements and the competence requirements emphasized in the form of assessments by professionals is an important step towards further professionalizing the still young profession of science manager.
