Abstract:
Universities are facing shifts in student demographics, with increasing diversity and changing enrollment patterns. Digital accessibility plays a crucial role in ensuring educational equity in this evolving landscape, allowing all students to fully participate in learning. However, it is still not widely recognized as a cross-cutting responsibility within higher education institutions. This paper explores its role in higher education and presents the SHUFFLE Maturity Model as a tool for universities to assess and institutionalize the ability of implementing digital accessibility. Applied at six universities, the model’s evaluation highlights its potential for sustainable improvements and fostering long-term educational equity.
