Abstract:
The profiling of universities of applied sciences (UAW) towards a stronger research orientation has been apparent for some time, not least in efforts to grant these universities the right to award doctorates. Reports from funding bodies and data from university statistics provide sufficient evidence of the dynamic development of research activities.
This development is of considerable importance with regard to reporting on research activities. In an increasingly competitive higher education system, in which organizations and stakeholders must report regularly and meaningfully on their performance, the performance of UAS should be recorded and presented as fully as possible.
Using the example of the DZHW’s equipment, cost and performance comparison, a cross-state reporting instrument, the article discusses how equipment characteristics for research at UAS can be measured and presented in a differentiated manner.
