Abstract:
The article provides a transnational perspective on the development and implementation of two calls issued by the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) for its transdisciplinary funding program #ConnectingMinds. Four key learnings are addressed: (1) the need for active program management to strengthen transdisciplinarity research (TDR) skills both within funding agencies and externally at research institutions; (2) the indispensable continuous involvement of TDR experts in program design and the review process; (3) the relevance of an open and adaptable funding institution that includes decision-makers who are committed to building up the necessary competencies and capacity and fully support the program; (4) the orientation towards the TD-community and involved practitioners as a (new) target group.
