Abstract:
About a quarter of all students in Germany enter higher education having already completed vocational education and training (Kroher et al. 2023). At the same time, many students experience doubts about their studies and consider dropping out (Next Career 2021). When deciding whether to continue or discontinue their
studies, students with pre-tertiary vocational qualifications have an additional option compared to students who have entered higher education without any prior qualifications: re-entering the labour market as professionals. How do students with pre-tertiary vocational training view their situation and options when contemplating leaving their studies? And what implications for the field of career guidance can be derived from this? These questions are examined in the following article.
