Abstract:
The term ‘acceleration’ was characterised by Hartmut Rosa and describes how people have lost connection with themselves and their surroundings. Since the implementation of the Bologna Declaration (1999), students face increasing demands in their studies and in their private lives. As their lives have accelerated considerably due to organisational changes, they report higher levels of stress, anxiety and pressure to perform. Hence, mindfulness is becoming increasingly important as a counterpart to acceleration in students. Mindfulness can be described as a more conscious perception of the ‘here and now’ that is an integral part of students‘ everyday lives. Taking on a mindful perspective can act as a way to enable students to live a more present student life.
