Abstract:
Universities are regarded as training centers for the “change agents” of tomorrow. Against this backdrop, they are seen as having an important role to play in the social transformation towards sustainability. So far, however, it remains to be seen how university teaching oriented towards the guiding principle of sustainability and a corresponding university organizational culture can be systematically institutionalized. This article shows on the base of a literature evaluation that the implementation of sustainability education in higher education and higher education didactics can only take place under contradictory conditions. A promising framework for this is identified in the concept of pedagogical university development.
